In order to alleviate the insecurities and daily hassle, we have implemented a micro-economy program called #keep_them_warm. Through this program, our aim was to keep seniors warm in winter. Therefore, we have promoted a fundraising and implemented a program based on selling Christmas socks during exhibitions held in various parts of Beirut. Our main focus was to make sure elderly people have the necessities they need to brave the cold and the bad situation of the country. The #keep_them_warm program teams seniors with volunteers who have visited them during the festivities in order to share with them good times especially those who are alone in these difficult times. Volunteers have brought cheer to older people and delivered financial support and food rations to those who are in despair need. The idea behind the financial support to some families was to avoid trespassing on people’s dignities, while giving them flexibility and autonomy in procuring their household needs. This initiative has also helped revitalize local economies, through supporting local and small entrepreneurs that are struggling to survive within the crisis.
To date, we have distributed more than 50 food rations, helped more than 20 elder people in need, and continue our mission to reach more at risk seniors.
